There are several different options for storing your boat during the winter months, but it can be difficult to know what works best for you. Everyone has different options when it comes to winter storage of a boat and you may therefore need to adapt to your own circumstances.
Option 1: Store on land
The most common way is to pick up the boat from the water and store it on land during the winter. This is the option that involves the least risk of damage to the boat. The disadvantage, however, may be that it involves some difficulty in getting the boat out of the water. You can choose for yourself whether you want to store it indoors or outdoors. If you choose to store it outdoors, you need to cover it with a tarpaulin and preferably place the boat on some kind of trailer. The absolute best way is to store the boat indoors if possible, as it minimizes the risk of damage.
Option 2: Store in the water
It is not always possible to take the boat out of the water during the winter, so it is also possible to store it in the water if you wish. But it can also involve a lot of risks and it doesn't suit every boat either. You simply have to decide for yourself what you think your boat can handle. An advantage is that in several parts of Sweden the winters tend to be relatively mild and it may therefore be unnecessary to take the boat out of the water.
How can the safety of the boat be increased during winter storage?
Regardless of the alternative, storing the boat in winter involves risks. Above all, the risk of theft increases when the boat is stored outdoors, regardless of whether it is on land or in the water. Boat theft is increasing every year and it can therefore be good to invest in a GPS tracker for boats. With the help of the GPS tracker, you can follow exact positions in real time and receive alarms.
